Rain halts Windies’ progress
A torrential downpour has interrupted the West Indies’ quest for victory in the opening Digicel One-Day International (ODI) match against New Zealand at Sabina Park.
After restricting New Zealand for 190-9 in 50 overs, the Christopher Gayle-inspired West Indies sped to 93-1 before a lightning storm and dimming light forced the umpires to call off the players.
Scores: New Zealand 190-9 (50 overs); West Indies 93-1 (18 overs).
The left-handed Gayle, on his international return to Sabina Park, has struck an aggressive 49 not out from 42 balls, while Dwayne Smith is with him on 38.
West Indies opener Llendl Simmons was dismissed for nought in the third over of the innings.
