August 1962: Bunny Grant wins Commonwealth lightweight boxing title at the National Stadium — the first event to be held there.
1962: CAC Games held at the National Stadium.
1968: Lennox Miller wins silver in the men’s 100 metres at the Olympic Games in Mexico City.
1969: Jamaica, led by Easton McMorris, win the regional four-day cricket championship, the Shell Shield for the first time.
1971: Jamaica wins 4×100 metres gold medal at Pan American Games with team members Alfred Daley, Don Quarrie, Carl Lawson, and Lennox Miller.
Miller also wins silver in the 100 metres.
1972: Jamaica beat Mexico 1-0 for the first time in international football, courtesy of a goal by Leonard ‘Chicken’ Mason. The match was played at the National Stadium.
1973: George Foreman and Joe Frazier fight for the Heavyweight Championship in ‘The Sunshine Showdown’ in Kingston. Foreman dominated the fight to win by technical knockout.
1976: Donald Quarrie wins gold in the 200 metres and silver in the 100 metres at the Montreal Olympics.
1976: Fast bowler Michael Holding takes a career best 14 for 149 in a Test match against England at The Oval in London.
1980: Merlene Ottey wins bronze medal at the Moscow Olympics.
1980: David Weller wins bronze in cycling time trial.
1983: Bert Cameron wins 400 metres title at the first World Athletic Championship in Helsinki, Finland
1988: Jamaica win regional cricket title for the second time.
1988: Jamaica stuns and impresses the world by entering a bobsleigh team at the Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
1989: Jamaica retain regional cricket title.
1995: Jamaica win regional cricket title.
1988: Grace Jackson wins silver in the 200 metres at the Los Angeles Olympics.
1992: Juliet Cuthbert wins silver in the 100 and 200 metres at the Barcelona Olympic Games.
1996: Dionne Hemmings wins gold at the Atlanta Olympic Games in the women’s 400-metre hurdles, the first by a Jamaican.
1998: Jamaica’s national football team qualifies for the World Cup in France for the first time.
2008: Usain Bolt wins sprint double at the Olympic Games in Beijing, smashing the world record in both events.
2008: Veronica Campbell Brown wins 200 metres at Beijing Games
