More medals to come, tomorrow’s events preview
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica will compete in three events, one final, tomorrow.
After the country’s historic run in the men’s 200m, finishing 1-2-3, yesterday it could add another piece of silverware to their nine-medal haul (3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze) in the women’s 4x100m final. Jamaica enters the event with the fourth fastest qualifying time (42.37, a season’s best), after suffering from a poor baton exchange which saw them finish behind Ukraine (42.36) in their semifinal.
The US is the fastest qualifier with 41.64, just short of the Olympic record, and perhaps enters as favourite over the Jamaicans. Trinidad and Tobago and Ukraine have the second and third fastest times respectively. That race gets underway tomorrow at 2:40PM.
Jamaica will also contest the semis of the women’s 4x400m and the men’s 4x100m.
With the exception of tomorrow’s events, Jamaica will participate in two others, the men’s 4x100m and the women’s 4x400m finals on Saturday. The men are favourites to retain their title while the women are expected to medal in the mile relay.
Jamaica won 11 medals in the Beijing Olympics.
