CC and Munro to battle for Jackson Shield on Saturday
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Long time rivals Cornwall College and Munro College will meet at Munro, St Elizabeth on Saturday in the 20th staging of the Jackson Shield pre-season schoolboy football competition.
Cornwall College are the present holders after a big 7-0 aggregate win between the two games played in Montego Bay last year, but Munro had won the last time they hosted the games.
The competition’s format sees the daCosta Cup teams meeting in the first game before the over 35 teams meet in the ‘feature’ game and the aggregate scores between both games are used to determine the winners.
The event is usually held just prior to the start of the daCosta competition and as such the teams usually play their best teams, as the coaches seek to get a better idea of where they are in terms of readiness for the season.
The 2012 ISSA daCosta Cup season is set to get underway on Saturday September 8 with a double header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex at Catherine Hall.
Last year, Cornwall won the schoolboy match 1-0 then trounced Munro 6-0 in the over-35 game to avenge a big loss they suffered in a fog and rain affected game in 2010 when the home team won 5-1 on aggregate, after the schoolboy teams had played out a 0-0 draw.
