Region’s coaches set for badminton course at GC Foster
FIFTEEN coaches from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, and Guyana will participate in a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Level One Coaching Course to be held at GC Foster College starting tomorrow and ending September 10.
The clinics, which run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day, will be conducted by development director for Pan American Badminton Confederation, German Valdez of Peru, and Englishwoman Joanne Hughes, who is a BWF expert in conducting Shuttle Time and Coach Level System courses.
Valdez told the Jamaica Observer the course, which was launched this year, is a pilot for English-speaking countries which also form part of the Pan-American Badminton Federation including Suriname, Curacao, Canada, and the USA.
“The coaching is to begin implementation. We are looking forward to having internationals standard for all countries; to improve all the levels and coaches in the Pan American Badminton Federation,” Valdez said.
“It is very important to have here in the Americas and especially in Jamaica.”
Level II of the course is expected to be done by February 2013 with the Level III version to be complete by the end of 2013.
“We think it is the right approach to have the countries and the coaches certified under this system. The coaches are going to identify some national people,” Valdez said.
