A 45-year-old Clarendon contractor has been charged with breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act after he was allegedly held at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston with over 100,000 in US and Euro currencies.

Dave Johns of Toll Gate in Clarendon was held on September 1 after allegedly arriving in the island from St Maarten with the funds which he is accused of not declaring.

The currency, which included 57,000 Euros, is alleged to have been found in secret compartments of Johns’ luggage.

He was charged with possession of criminal property, bringing criminal property into Jamaica and failing to report to the designated authority.

Yesterday, Johns was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court where he was offered bail in the sum of $300,000 following an application by his attorney Tom Tavares-Finson.

As part of his bail condition, Johns will have to surrender his travel documents and report to the Four Paths Police Station in Clarendon on Mondays and Thursdays.

He is to return to court on October 11.
