PAKISTAN dominated Jamaica in the seventh round of the 2012 Olympiad yesterday in Istanbul, Turkey, their open team securing a 2 1/2-1 1/2 vicory while their female team edged Jamaica by a similar margin.

Pakistan established a commanding 2-0 lead in the Open section after Damion Davy and Andrew Mellace lost on boards three and four.

Mellace’s Smith-Mora Sicilian Gambit was refuted by Haseeb Ahmed after the Jamaica co-champion miscalculated with 14.Bc5, and promptly lost a Knight and subsequently the game.

Davy’s Lasker-Pelikan Variation of the Sicilian Defense gave him winning chances until he lost the chance of securing a draw.

Board two player CM Duane Rowe scored a solid victory over Mohmmad Qureshi for his fourth straight win, while IM Jomo Pitterson was held to a draw by IM Mahmood Lodhi in an opposite coloured Bishop ending.

Pakistan registered the double over Jamaica as WFM Deborah Richards-Porter lost on board one to Zenbia Wasif; Jamaican champion Krishna Gray was outdone by Nida Siddiqui on board two, while Mellisha Smith scored a solid win for Jamaica on board four.

Hui Zhu was held to a draw by Ghazala Khuaja in another opposite coloured Bishop ending.

In tomorrow’s eighth round in the Open section, Jamaica’s men meet South Korea for the first time at the Olympiad. The women get a bye in this round.
