Joe South dies
American singer/songwriter Joe South, whose massive hit song Games People Play, was covered by Bob Andy and Inner Circle, died last Wednesday in Georgia at age 72. The Associated Press reported the cause of death as heart failure.
South was also a respected guitarist who played on Aretha Franklin’s classic Chain of Fools, and also wrote Jeannie C Riley’s big country hit, Rose Garden.
Games People Play was his signature piece. Recorded and released in 1969, it won a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1970.
