THE giant-killing act of the newly promoted Savannah FC highlighted the second round of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) after they clipped former champion Harbour View 1-0 at Frome.

The Westmoreland-based outfit, defeated defending champion Portmore United on the opening day and are currently third in the 12-team table on six points, the same as the leaders.

Shane Anderson netted a 90th minute winner for the Patrick Graham-coached team as they are proving that they belong in top-flight football, although it is still early days.

The other promoted team Cavalier also registered their first win back in the premier league after a 17-year hiatus, with a stunning 2-1 come-from-behind win over Portmore United at Stadium East field.

The Duncan Destroyers as they were known, had to thank their two new summer signings for the victory in Girvon Brown (75th) and Claudius Blackburn (79th), the younger brother of Arnett Gardens’ player Marcelino Blackburn.

Meanwhile, Arnett Gardens and Sporting Central Academy recorded their second wins to be joint top of the league on six points with identical goal difference.

The promising and talented Lamar “Wanka” Nelson got Arnett’s winner from the penalty spot against Humble Lion for his second goal of the season, having scored a scorcher against Tivoli Gardens the previous week.

Sporting Central’s Levaughn “Country” Williams also registered his second goal in his team’s 2-0 win over Highgate United and kept the Clarendon team joint leaders after two rounds.

Last season’s leading goalscorer, Jermaine Anderson netted twice as Waterhouse registered their first win of the campaign, inflicting a 3-1 defeat on Boys’ Town at Drewsland.

With head coach Donovan Duckie still banned from the bench until he appears before the Disciplinary Committee, it didn’t stop Waterhouse from climbing into fourth on four points ahead of Boys’ Town down to fifth with three points.

Former champions Harbour View are sixth following their shock defeat to Savannah on three points, while another former champions Tivoli Gardens bounced back from their opening day 1-3 loss to Arnett with a 1-0 away win over Montego Bay United.

St Mary outfit Highgate United are on one point in ninth spot ahead of a trio of big teams in Humble Lion, Montego Bay United and Portmore United all without a point after two rounds.
