STETHS clobber Balaclava High 10-0
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Kahserio Hall scored a hat-trick as three-time daCosta Cup champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) trampled all over Balaclava High 10-0 at the STETHS Sports Complex here on Wednesday.
Rushane Scarlett, who netted twice, opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a low right-foot shot and from then on Balaclava had no answer as STETHS repeatedly ripped them apart with a smooth, passing game on a lush, rain-soaked field.
Hall registered his hat-trick with goals in the 45th, 59th and 86th minutes.
Scarlett completed his brace with a goal in the 71st minute, while Jamel Sinclair also scored twice — in the 20th and 64th.
Rodney Hall in the 42nd minute, Turnesta Stewart, 81st, Rohan Lindsay, 88th, were the other scorers in what was STETHS’ first home game of the season following away victories over Maggotty High and Lacovia High.
STETHS coach Omar Wedderburn described himself as “pleased” and appreciative of the 10 goals but more than that, he was happy that “we got goals from all over, not just the strikers”.
STETHS are the defending Ben Francis Cup knock-out champions and last year’s beaten finalists in the daCosta Cup and Wedderburn made it clear he has even higher ambitions this year.
“Our aim is to play the very last match in this schoolboy football season… that is our mission,” he said.
Losing coach Rohan Forbes said the defeat represented a “low point” for football at Balaclava High. “It’s a long time we have not been to this point,” he said. He blamed unforced errors and a failure to “cover” properly for the huge margin of defeat.
