FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Head of the New Nation Coalition party Betty Ann Blaine has cautioned Falmouth residents against involvement in any dishonest activities that might emerge from the construction of the $7.5-billion cruise ship pier in the historic town.

“Commerce is good, it gives people jobs and so on, keeps the engine of industry turning. But along with the sea of commerce comes another sea which is not good — crookedness and corruption. We are happy for the business coming into Falmouth, but be careful that we don’t sell our souls to the devil in the process,” she said.

Blaine, also a children’s rights advocate, was speaking at the first anniversary celebration of the Trelawny Chapter of the Jamaica Child Evangelism Fellowship, held at the Falmouth Salvation Army Church, recently.

She argued that in order to change Jamaica’s image as a corrupt nation, each person must aspire to change.

“We talk a lot about corruption and this country is thoroughly corrupt — from head to toe. But it takes two people. So when we pointing finger at the corrupter, remember that there are ‘corruptees’ as well. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and we have to be the change. We can change Jamaica and we must,” Blaine said.

Meanwhile, she said that “Jamaica is waiting on a radical church”.

“Jamaica is waiting on a new church. Jamaica is waiting on the real church and the world is waiting on Jamaica .So church, ready, set, go,” she challenged.
