MAY PEN, Clarendon — Garvey Maceo scored an upset 1-0 win over rivals Glenmuir High at Juici Oval yesterday in a return-round fixture to take over the lead in Zone M of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition.

Ishmael Curry’s first-half penalty was enough for Garvey Maceo to snap a three-game winless streak against the former champions and move three points clear at the top of the zone.

Garvey Maceo, who lost two times to Glenmuir last year and drew their first-round game 0-0, lead with 16 points after Glenmuir lost in a first-round game for the first time in 18 games dating back to the 2010 season when Garvey edged them 1-0.

Meanwhile, Ben Francis KO champions St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and Spalding scored contrasting wins to run their records to six straight. STETHS were spared the blushes after Maggotty High missed two second-half penalties on their way to a 2-1 loss.

Jamel Sinclair scored in the third and 23rd minutes after STETHS took an early lead before Taj Coley pulled one back for Maggotty in the 40th.

Spalding blanked Christiana High, 2-0, to take their tally to 18 points as Holmwood Technical stayed second with a 1-0 win over Knox College.

Bellefield High joined Manchester High at the top of Zone F after edging Mile Gully, 1-0, and Manchester’s surprise 0-0 draw against BB Coke who they had beaten 4-0 in the first round. Both are on 11 points, but Manchester have a better goal difference.

In Zone A, St James came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Cornwall College at Montego Bay Sports Complex as both teams scored outstanding goals.

Ricardo Wilson gave Cornwall an early lead when his right-footed free-kick from just outside the area, curled into the left upright and out of reach of goalkeeper Robert Morrison in the fifth minute.

Cornwall wasted several chances to increase their lead and allowed St James back into the game when a defensive error in the 83rd saw substitute Taveon McNeil lob goalkeeper Levanno Lewis, control the ball calmly and shoot into a wide open goal.

Tevin Williams ran his tally to seven goals when he scored a hat-trick to lead Frome Technical to a 3-0 win over Herbert Morrison to take over the lead in Zone B. Green Island edged Cambridge High 2-1.

Grange Hill took over the lead in Zone D after a 1-0 win over Godfrey Stewart to move to 11 points as Mannings moved into second with a 3-2 win over former leaders Petersfield, who fell to third.

William Knibb blanked Holland High, 3-0, to assume the lead in Zone C as Muschett beat Hopewell, 4-1, to snap a two-game losing streak.

Paul Bogle are the sole leaders in Zone O after a 2-0 win over Seaforth and also extended their run of games without conceding a goal to six straight. Paul Bogle are on 14 points, two more than St Thomas Technical, who blanked Robert Lightbourne, 3-0, to move past Seaforth.

Meanwhile, all three games in Zone I were postponed until tomorrow as a mark of respect for the funeral service for former Marcus Garvey coach Rohan Alexander.
