THE Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) yesterday announced that all results involving Merlene Ottey High in Zone B of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition are to be ruled null and void.

According to reports, the administration of the Pondside-based school decided last week to withdraw from the competition because of disciplinary reasons.

George Forbes, ISSA’s competitions co-ordinator, told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that this decision was arrived at following consultation with the governing Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

The same obtains in the case of Claude McKay High, who have ceded three points to their respective opponents in the first round in Zone H.

Claude McKay had voluntarily forfeited a game against Edwin Allen High because of an ineligible player who was later found to have played more than one match.

The decision makes little difference in the standings, however, as Clarendon College, who edged them 4-3, moved into second place ahead of Edwin Allen on goal difference. Both schools have 10 points, one less then leaders Lennon High. Clarendon have, however, played four games — one less than both Lennon and Edwin Allen.

In Zone B, the withdrawal of Merlene Ottey has greaty affected Herbert Morrison, whose lone win came against the former and they now slip to the bottom of the tables on goal difference behind Cambridge. Both teams have two points.

Frome Technical continue to lead the group with 12 points from five games — two more than defending champions Rusea’s High, who have played a game less. Green Island remain third on seven points.
