MAY PEN, Clarendon — Earning a place in the Red Stripe Premier League end-of-first-found final is not a priority for Humble Lion, coach Lenny Hyde has said.

The Clarendon side moved within three points of the summit following last Thursday’s 1-1 stalemate with Tivoli Gardens at Effortville with three games remaining in the round.

While admitting that they are very much in the hunt for a maiden end-of-round showpiece, Hyde said the main aim is “to accumulate points” and see what happens.

“We are just trying to accumulate points,” Hyde said, “if it takes us there then we will be grateful, but we weren’t thinking about it given the (poor) pre-season that we had.”

“I like how we are playing, but we are still not consistent,” he added.

Humble Lion are fifth in the 12-team league on 13 points and will aim to extend their unbeaten run to five games when they play away to champions Portmore United in the latest edition of Red Stripe Football Mondays at Ferdie Neita Park.

Hyde reckons if they are to get the better of Portmore, whom he guided to the Premier League title in 2002-03, they will have to be more clinical in front of goal.

He is also hoping that they will start making better decisions in tight spaces.

“The team is lacking in that department,” he said. “We need to make quick decisions because as I always say ‘football is a head game’ and I don’t think we are really thinking the game.”
