Lowly Cavalier sting Tivoli Gardens

ELEVENTH-placed Cavalier surprised former champions Tivoli Gardens with a 1-0 win in their Red Stripe Premier League football encounter at the Stadium East field yesterday.

The newcomers, who have been struggling having lost their last four games, appeared to have come out with a different strategy — a bolstered defence.

Cavalier had a chance to score in the 24th minute, but Mitchily Waul’s shot missed its target after he slipped on the wet grass. Then in the 61st minute Claudious Blackburn made it right, when he put the home team ahead with a header from close range.

Fabian Nethersole had a glorious opportunity to put the game out of Tivoli’s reach in the 83rd minute, but missed with a powerful left-footer that went way over the goal and in the direction of Mas Camp.

Coach Lamar Morgan told the Jamaica Observer that putting an extra man in

defence helped.

“The game wasn’t a bad game overall. I think we should have scored two more

goals,” he said.

Tivoli Gardens coach, Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey said his team lacked heart and desire.

“We just not playing with any pride. Some of these players need to sit down. We not playing with any energy and it is evident,” he said.
