AFTER competitive fixtures on Friday and Saturday of last week, the semi-finalists for this year’s Walker Cup knock-out competition have been decided.

In Friday’s opening encounter at the Constant Spring Complex, Kingston College exacted revenge against Charlie Smith with a hard-fought 1-0 victory. With the teams playing for the third time this season, it was Dorvil Jackson that provided the game’s only goal after 81 minutes of action. In the following fixture, Wolmer’s Boys came from a goal down to upset the defending champions St George’s College.

Neville Bell would have been smiling after Cordel Benbow headed them into the lead after 28 minutes following great link up play between national senior invitee Andre Lewis and Kendon Anderson but Wolmer’s refused to settle for second best and rallied in the second half through goals from Jaheel Hyde and national U-17 striker Jason Wright.

On Saturday, Excelsior left it late but will still be grateful after their 2-0 triumph over Bridgeport High. After 90 minutes of play the teams could not be separated but in extra time, it was Romaine Hoosang and JeVaughn Francis who provided the goals for Excelsior. The victors played with a one-man advantage for most of extra time after Bridgeport’s Luther Whyte was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Jamaica College claimed the last semi-final spot with a 1-0 win over Spanish Town High. In a fairly even encounter, it was the talisman Junior Flemming that provided the all-important goal, firing in a free kick in the second-half.

Both semi-finals will be played today at the Constant Spring Complex later today, with Excelsior facing Jamaica College at 1:00 pm and Kingston College squaring off against Wolmer’s Boys.
