JAMAICAN seven-foot centre Jerome Jordan is expected to play his sixth NBA pre-season match for the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night when they host Orlando Magic at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.

The 27-year-old who is in his second year in the league, will be paid a minimum salary of US$762,195 for the 2012-13 season, up from the $473,604 he received at the New York Knicks in the 2011-12 season.

Starting in two of five pre-season matches for the Grizzlies, Jordan booked his best performance against the Milwaukee Bucks last Thursday at the LaCrosse Center in Wisconsin.

Memphis won, 97-94, with Jordan scoring 10 points in the 24 minutes and 44 seconds he spent on court. He was 100 per cent from the field, scoring all five field goal attempts. Jordan also contributed five rebounds, two assists, one steal and a block.

An ESPN pundit, giving his spin, said: “It was interesting to see Jordan get the start at centre over team veteran Hamed Haddadi. Haddadi has an edge over Jordan in that the former has a guaranteed contract, but the latter could conceivably sneak onto the Grizzlies’ roster.”

Jordan is averaging 12.6 minutes and 5.8 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 64.7 and free throw stats at 77.8.

The Grizzlies will play their last pre-season game on Friday night againt the Toronto Raptors before their regular season begins on October 31 at the Los Angeles Clippers.

Having already enjoyed pre-season matches against the Indiana Pacers and Houston Rockets this month, Jordan is hoping to play more than the 5.1 minutes per game from 21 matches he had with the Knicks last season.

He is expected to agree a contract with the Grizzlies this weekend or go elsewhere.
