J’can accountant to head new CONCACAF committee

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) — Leading Jamaican accountant Leighton McKnight has been appointed to chair a newly created Audit and Compliance Committee of CONCACAF.

McKnight will lead a seven-member committee that also includes Richard Groden from Trinidad and Tobago, Bruke Blake from the Cayman islands and Bermuda’s Andrew Griffith.

The committee’s vice-president is Carlos Cordeiro from the United States while the other representatives come from Panama and Mexico.

“I am deeply honoured and very excited to be invited to assist in improving corporate governance in CONCACAF,” said McKnight.

“This critical organisation in our region has faced significant governance challenges in the past, but now has the opportunity to positively shape its future.”

McKnight, a UWI graduate, is the managing partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Jamaica with an audit portfolio that includes clients with group companies situated across the Caribbean region, North and Central America.

A release from CONCACAF said the Committee’s primary charge is to confirm the accuracy of the body’s financial accounting as well as to examine its financial statements.

“As part of the new CONCACAF’s commitment to inclusiveness, accountability and transparency, we have created a Committee that will ensure we remain vigilant and committed to developing the game,” said CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb.

“This committee is comprised of individuals with the highest levels of integrity and competence, and they will help strengthen CONCACAF’s future.”
