MAY PEN, Clarendon — Denzil Watson’s last-gasp penalty salvaged a 2-2 draw for Humble Lion against promoted Cavalier in their Red Stripe Premier League encounter at Effortville yesterday.

Raymond Thompson’s delightful turn and finish gave the visitors a deserved lead on 33 minutes after David Laylor’s side had failed to put away their first two opportunities.

Just two minutes later, Omar Walters climbed highest to head home a Jermaine Christian cross, which restored parity for the hosts.

Girvon Brown’s 56th-minute free kick looked to have secured successive wins for Cavalier only for second-half substitute Watson to break their hearts at the death with a coolly taken spot kick.

The result was, perhaps, a fair one based on the balance of play, but both sides will feel they created more than enough chances to have secured all three points on a sunny afternoon in

central Clarendon.

Humble Lion, who are now officially out of the running for a place in the first end-of-round final, inched to 14 points, which should be enough to keep them in the top six.

Assistant coach Max Straw was, however, disappointed with the result. “We allowed Cavalier to play too much in the first half, especially in the middle of the field,” he said.

Cavalier, who will remain in the bottom three irrespective of results elsewhere, moved their tally to 10 points, but like his opposite number, coach Laylor was not pleased with the point.

“I’m really disappointed with the result, because we are at least three goals better and even in the last few minutes we got a chance to win the game,” Laylor said.

In another game yesterday, champions Portmore United edged Highgate 1-0 courtesy of a Paul Wilson’s 26th-minute strike at Drax Hall.
