Old Harbour fishers calling on Gov’t for assistance
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reeling from the effects of Hurricane Sandy, fisher folk in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, are slowly trying to pick up the pieces of their lives.
According to the fishers most of their boats and fishing equipment were damaged during the passage of the Storm last week.
“We really need help, most of our equipment were damaged during the hurricane, to get back on our feet we calling on the Jamaica Fisheries Division to assist in our recovery efforts,” fisherman Henry James told the Observer this morning.
“A millions we loose because of the storm we trying to rebuild at this time,” declared Fitzroy Baker, another fisherman at the popular fishing village.
Old Harbour Bay on the south coast is one of the island’s primary fishing villages.
