MONTEGO BAY, St James — Granville Wolfpack and Cornwall Courts Chargers will be seeking their first win of the Hi-lyte/Insport Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Basketball Championships when they meet at the Montego Bay Cricket Club this evening at 6:30.

After two losses each so far, both are desperate for a win to take them off the bottom of the tables.

On Sunday, William Knibb Thunder ended Trelawny Tornadoes’ winning start at two games with a close 58-5 victory at William Knibb, despite a gamehigh 19 points from Anthoneil Watson.

Despite the loss, Tornadoes are still leaders with five points from three games, with Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights, Inner-City Avalanche, Thunder and Rocky Bar Ballers tied on four and Coral Gardens Raptors on three.

On Sunday, Thunder trailed 12-18 after the first quarter, but surged to the front going into the fourth quarter after outscoring Tornadoes, 31-17, over the second and third quarters and managing to hold on despite a furious final quarter from Tornadoes.

Huntly Duhaney scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Thunders, while Michael Belnavis scored 11 points and had nine rebounds, and Michael Johnson had 10 points.

Three players also scored in double digits for Tornadoes as Watson also had 11 rebounds, while brothers Diego and Jamari Hines each notched 11 points each.

In another all-Trelawny game, Rocky Bar Ballers also scored their second win, beating the winless Muschett Cardinals, 60-51, after a slow start, scoring just three points in the first quarter.

Tevin Kelly scored 22 points for Rocky Bar Ballers, who managed to outscore the Wakefield-based club, 57-41, over the final three quarters.

Roneal Isaacs and Christopher Gibbons both scored 10 points for the winners, while teenager Karlington Barrett led the Cardinals with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

On Saturday, there were wins for Inner-City Avalanche over Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors and Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights over Granville.
