MONTEGO BAY, St James – A 50-year-old Whitehouse, Westmoreland, farmer who said he did not know he was hired to transport over 660lbs of ganja was offered bail when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court.

Everton Woolery was held during a routine spot check in Lethe, St James, on October 8 and was subsequently charged with possession of, dealing in and transporting ganja.

Last week, he was offered bail in the sum of $500,000 with up to three sureties, and is booked to return to court on January 31 when the case will be mentioned.

As a condition of his bail, the accused is to report to the police three days a week.

The court heard that the police were conducting a routine spot check at around 1:00 pm, when they noticed three motorcars all stopping and trying to reverse, when the vehicles were approached.

The police, however, only managed to hold on to Woolery who was the driver of one of the vehicles.

And when his station wagon was searched, several knitted bags containing 667lbs of ganja was allegedly found in them.

Under caution, Woolery reportedly told the police: “Me never know seh a dis yah kinda work yah me aggo duh. De man dem seh dem have a work fi me and when me go me see dem load up the car and me couldn’t turn back.”
