PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Heavy rain lashed east Portland today flooding the entrance to capital town Port Antonio from the west.

Motorists wishing to enter the town from the west (courthouse end) are being advised to travel through Boundbrok, the National Works Agency said this afternoon.

The rain this morning also seriously affected school attendance in the parish.

Titchfield High, Boundbrook Primary and Norwich Primary, Port Antonio High and Primary and Bethesda Basic School were all closed because of the heavy showers.

“We closed school at 8:30 due to the flooding in the town and surrounding areas and because of the low attendance,” Basil Graham Principal of Port Antonio High commented. 

The rain resulted in the flooding of a number of areas including Norwich, Folly Road and Dolphin Bay.

In addition, the NWC said that landslides and fallen trees have blocked the main road from Fair Prospect to Muirton, in the vicinity of the ‘See Me No More’ corner. 

Motorists using this road are being advised to travel through Rural Hill.
