TWO new teams will meet in the final of the Michael Holding Masters Cricket Competition at Ultimate Cricket Ground in Discovery Bay St Ann today beginning at 10:30 am.

Long Island qualified for the final yesterday after narrowly defeating Queens Masters by two runs in a low-scoring match at Ultimate.

Queens won the toss and invited Long Island to take first strike. Long Island made 131 all out in 32.3 overs on the back of Delroy Morgan’s 51, Cliff Roy 21 and Wayne Cuff 17. The wickets went to Queens’ captain Dixieth Palmer, who took five for 28 in seven overs, and Richard Siethand with two for 13 in six overs.

A confident Queens team lost wickets early in their run chase. They got up to 103 for four in the 25th over but could not hold on for the win. Queens were eventually dismissed for 129 in the 35th over.

The runs went to Deonarie Deyal with 35, Cleveland Davidson, 25, and Mahadeo Bodoe with 22, while Delroy Morgan accounted for the most wickets — four for 14 in seven overs.

St Elizabeth booked their place on Thursday after defeating Clarendon Masters in another low-scoring match.

Long Island and St Elizabeth Masters are the only two unbeaten teams in the competition.
