MONTEGO BAY, St James — Savannah J-Hawks scored an exciting nail-biting, one-point win (45-44) over Coral Gardens Raptors at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Thursday to chalk up their first win in the Hi-lyte Insports Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Championships.

The teams were tied at 29 going into the final quarter where the Westmoreland team managed to get the better of the newcomers, joining Granville Wolf as two first-time winners in a three-day span.

On Tuesday, Granville had beaten Cornwall Courts Chargers 53-47 after losing their first two games.

Three games will be played over the weekend all in Trelawny, two this afternoon at Muschett High in Wakefield.

J-Hawks will hope to win back-to-back games when they face winless Muschett Cardinals at 3:00 pm after which Inner-City Avalanche and William Knibb Thunder, both undefeated after two games, will meet for the lead.

There will be another meeting of teams with two wins on Sunday when Rocky Bar Ballers host Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights at William Knibb in Martha Brae.

On Thursday at Cricket Club, J-Hawks rallied from trailing Raptors 6-9 and 12-18 after the first two quarters to draw level at the end of the third quarter before moving ahead of them to clinch an exciting win.

Curtis Anderson scored 11 points to lead J-Hawks, while Elton Williams contributed 10 points to the winning effort and Don Crawford had a game-high 14 points for the losers. Orville Blake scored 12 and Ricardo Thomas had 11 points.
