Big wins for trio in Rugby League Champs
THE Jamaica Rugby League Association Surrey High Schools Championship got underway last week with Calabar, Spanish Town High and St George’s College recording emphatic victories in U-19 competition.
Two tries apiece from Remone Gordon and Sashawny Smith saw Calabar blank St Catherine, 32-0. Christopher Bascuine, Ronaldo Keating and James Gordon also booked tries for the winners.
Veteran scrum half Shevon Cuff nipped in three tries for Spanish Town, who beat Kingston College (KC), 34-0. Samio Smith added a double with Nicholas Cotterell, Omarrio Tucker and Adrian Christie scoring as well.
In other U-19 results, Nakeem Hamilton posted a try and five conversions for St George’s to dismiss Greater Portmore, 34-0.
Andre Hamilton, Javouni Deslandes and Javaoughn Brown supported with tries, while Roshane Taylor ran the length of the field twice for tries.
Campion College surprised Edith Dalton-James, 26-10, in a keen match. Adrian Hall logged three tries to give Campion the advantage. Nico Bailey and Andrew Cameron led Edith, while Jerome Rose had a conversion.
In U-16 matches, Spanish Town beat KC, 18-14, with Roje Sales scoring all 14 points for KC. However, Adrian Christie, Odane Christy, Ricardo Spence and Shemr Rowe carried Spanish Town to victory.
Andrew Cameron led a double in the first half to pave the way for Edith Dalton’s 12-0 thumping of Campion.
Calabar High and St George’s recorded identical 8-0 wins over St Catherine and Greater Portmore, respectively.
Calabar, KC, Spanish Town, St Catherine, Campion, St George’s, Edith Dalton, and Greater Portmore will advance the quarter-final KO stage.
