Andrea Osbourne Marketing Manager, Mother’s

Branded

Dear Reader,

Our e-mail inbox overflowed, and phone lines rang off the hook, thanking us for the return of the ‘Branded’ feature last week. Absent from our pages for a brief spell, the feature, which spotlights the people behind company brands and affords prizes to lucky readers, is officially back.

Do enjoy, and keep sending your feedback.

How did you land the job?

The position for a marketing manager had been vacant for a few months at the time I had just started my job hunt. I was told about the vacancy by a friend and submitted my résumé after a follow-up call. I was then called in for an interview. I am always confident and optimistic in everything I do, and had no doubt I would have been shortlisted. A few weeks passed and then I received a call from Richard Foreman, the general manager, informing me that the job was mine and he would like me to start the following Monday.

How long have you been in the job?

I joined the company on September 5, 2012, so I’ve been in the position for almost three months. I had to hit the ground running so to speak, as the Christmas season was getting close and there were a lot of elements to pull together to ensure customers have a great Christmas with Mother’s.

What’s great about your job?

Being a part of the creative and innovative process of a company that has been in business for over 30 years; it’s a clear indication that Mother’s is being guided by great business minds. There is also a lot to learn, not just in the area of marketing, but product knowledge as well.

Tell us something we might not know about the Mother’s brand.

Outside of the fact that Mother’s makes the best premium ice cream, the company is a fully owned Jamaican company with four divisions. Mother’s restaurants are innovators and leaders in the fast-food restaurant business and are the creators of the cheese patty, fish patty, the full-house patty, and power patty which have no beef by-product and was the recipient of the SRC Innovation Award — hence our slogan ‘The Great Jamaican Patty Company’.

We are also the creators of the Mother’s Jerk Burger and currently operate 18 branches islandwide with further expansion planned. Mother’s Bakery currently makes available a wide assortment of delicious pastries in supermarkets, gas stations, mom and pop stores, schools, and most recently, in our restaurants. We will be launching an additional seven pastry items within the coming weeks, and then there is the Devon House Bakery, guided by Donna Chen, which offers premium, exquisitely tasting pastries.

Mother’s also operates nine school canteens that provide students with great-tasting, balanced meals, and we will be growing this area of the business in the coming year.

What makes Mother’s an attractive option for those looking for fast food?

Mother’s will always offer the best value meals to our customers every day. We currently have several promotions for the holiday season — Jerk Wednesdays, Christmas Family Pack, and the pre-Christmas Spree — geared towards giving our customers extra value for money.

Where can customers find out more about your brand?

They can check out our website at www.motherjm.com or email us at info@motherjm.com
