Go Go Yvonne dances to victory in Gladiator Trophy feature
IMPORTED filly Go Go Yvonne overran Open Allowance company with an electrifying stretch run to win the $786,500 Gladiator Trophy feature by three lengths Caymanas at Park yesterday.
Well handled in the saddle by the improving claiming apprentice Shameree Muir for trainer Spencer Chung, Go Go Yvonne ran 1,400 metres in a time of 1:25.3 to beat fellow American colt and joint 3-5 favourite Reasonable Press, ridden by Winston Griffiths by a comfortable margin to win over the distance for the first time.
Remaining close to the pace until rounding the final bend, Muir then asked the filly to run and she pulled away from the field with a turn of foot that only Reasonable Press could respond to. But he was not closing fast enough to worry the filly and it remained that way back to the line.
Erasmo, a 2-1 chance ridden by champion jockey Dick Cardenas, was another three parts of a length third with imported filly Nyabinghi completing the frame under jockey Robert Stewart as a 71-1 shot in the field of six.
Owned by Lakeland Farms Ltd, Go Go Yvonne, a three-year-old bay filly by Bandini out of Known Heiress (Known Fact), was winning for the fifth time from 15 career starts and earned $429,400 as the winner’s share for a bankroll of $2,700,450 lifetime.
Earlier, Piscean Rocket running for the first time, won the $715,000 Royal Lancaster Trophy secondary feature for a maiden special weight contest for native-bred two-year-olds, colts and geldings.
Ridden by Cardenas for trainer Richard Azan, the bay colt Traditional ran 1,000 metres round in a time of 1:00.4 to beat the little more experienced 7-1 bet Devil’s Child ridden by jockey Trevor Simpson by 5 1/2 lengths.
On Song, the second favourite at odds of 2-1 and ridden by jockey Omar Walker, showed another 1 1/2 back with Apollo completing the frame ridden by Renardo McNaughton in the field of seven.
