New Kingston stun D’Park in ML opener
NEW Kingston scored a surprise 2-0 victory over seasoned campaigners Duhaney Park at Baldwin Crescent yesterday as the Hi-lyte KSAFA Major League got underway.
Gilbert Benjamin and Shamar Hall netted for the unfancied visitors, who joined Constant Spring, Real Mona, Maxfield Park as winners on the day.
In the other Zone B game, Maxfield blanked Meadforest, 3-0, while the match between Swallowfield and Bull Bay will be played this afternoon at the Stadium East, starting at 2:00.
In Zone A, Constant Spring, the day’s biggest winners, defeated Cooreville, 5-1; Real Mona stopped Pembroke Hall; 3-1, while the game between Molynes and Browns Town was rained out.
Under wet conditions at Duhaney Park, Benjamin fired the visitors in front after only nine minutes of play. However, the hosts had a great chance to get a goal back when they were awarded a penalty moments later, but Orlando Barrett sent his effort from 12 yards over the bar.
The David Mighty-coached team increased their lead in the 34th when Shamar Hall broke loose and fired past Omar Williams.
Duhaney Park came at their opponents in the second half, but despite hitting the post and creating a number of opportunities, they were unable to pull a goal back.
At Constant Spring, Dexter Allen scored twice for the hosts, who routed Cooreville 5-1, while at Buttercup Park, goals from Marlon Walker, Nicholas Dunkley and Jordan Moses eased Real Mona past Pembroke Hall.
