Hydel face Portmore Missionary in Prep netball final
HYDEL and Portmore Missionary will meet in the 2012 Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Prep Schoolgirls Netball League final this afternoon at the Leila Robinson Courts, Independence Park Complex, starting at 2:30.
Both schools reached today’s final by topping their respective groups in the semi-final round.
In their final match of the semi-final round Portmore Missionary defeated Lannaman’s 12-1, while Hydel registered a narrow 14-13 win over Quest in the top-of-the-table clash for first place. Hydel and Quest were locked at 13, but it was the former who managed to score the winning goal before the final whistle.
Third-place play-off will be between Our Lady of the Angels and Quest scheduled to begin at 1:45.
Meanwhile, Portmore Missionary will be playing in their fifth final despite only winning the title on two occasions and being beaten by Vaz in the final last year.
Coach Angela Williams said she thinks the team can beat Hydel as they will come into the final with the same number of goals, but on goal difference she his ahead of her opponent.
“I am expecting great things from my players as Flomae Brown and myself had to put in a lot of work as they are very small in size. We want to win and if the team does not win, I give thanks just the same as I did not expect them to reach so far so quickly,” Williams said.
Hydel’s coach Lorriane Miller said she cannot say anything about her team’s chances as she hardy gets the time to take a keen look at Portmore Missionary playing style.
“The players are going there to play and do what is required of them, but we are going all out to win. I did not expect the team to reach so far, as they are first timers, and we only intended to compete this year,” Miller said.
