The police in Manchester are continuing their probe into the seizure of 3,500 pounds of ganja in the Alligator Pond area of the parish Friday evening.

According to the police, about 8:45 pm personnel were on patrol in the area when they made the bust during a routine check on a beach.

Several packages, containing compressed ganja, were found. However, no one was arrested in connection with the find.

Speaking with the Sunday Observer, head of the Area Three division Assistant Commissioner Derrick Cochrane said the police are of the view that the drugs belong to persons involved in the drugs-for-guns trade and indicated that personnel from the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division were still in the parish conducting investigations.

ACP Cochrane said ganja traders have been very visible in St Elizabeth which, according to him, has accounted for a significant number of seizures, particularly on private motor cars as well as public passenger vehicles.

Yesterday, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington heaped praises on the police personnel who made the seizure and urged members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to remain vigilant throughout the Yuletide season.

He added that they should remain committed to their duty to protect the lives and livelihoods of the Jamaican people, while at the same time treating them with dignity and respect.
