TELECOMMUNICATIONS company Digicel welcomed some of the Caribbean’s best and brightest graduates at an induction ceremony held at its group offices recently, to mark the start of the company’s second annual Graduate Acceleration Programme (GAP).

This year’s GAP will see seven of the top graduates from the University of the West Indies and the Anton de Kom University starting a one-year rotation internship where they will learn about the business, giving them an excellent start to their professional careers. At the end of their internship, they will be evaluated with the possibility of being offered a permanent position with Digicel.

“Digicel is committed to developing its talented workforce and giving employees the opportunity to develop and grow their careers, and the Digicel GAP is just one of the many ways we’re doing that across our 31 markets worldwide,” Digicel Group Business Development Director Ken Mason said.

“With 95 per cent of Digicel’s employees hailing from across the Caribbean, development programmes such as the GAP ensure that the Caribbean’s future business leaders receive the best possible start to their working life, gaining invaluable skills which they will draw on throughout their careers.”

The graduates will also gain valuable experience on the corporate philanthropy side by working with the Digicel Jamaica Foundation for two months. Building on the knowledge they gain from that experience, the graduates will be asked to design and implement a community-related project of their own, working with a local organisation to make it a reality.

In addition to learning business-related skills, they will also learn various soft skills including effective communication, cooperation, adaptability, critical thinking and executive presence.

Digicel GAP identifies top graduates from universities across the Caribbean and offers them the opportunity to work with Digicel with the possibility of a permanent role in the organisation.
