FALMOUTH, Trelawny – Norwood Strikers, last season’s St James Football Association’s Senior League champions, will make their first ever appearance in the Jamaica Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League this afternoon, when they take on Holland United of Trelawny at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth, starting at 3:00pm.

Norwood Strikers which has advanced rapidly through the ranks in St James and Holland United are among the four clubs that were promoted to the Super League after winning their respective parish competitions last season.

Holland United are returning to the Super League after a few year’s absence.

Three other games will also be played today, Petersfield will host Hanover’s Logwood at the Petersfield Community Centre in Westmoreland; Catherine Hall and Harmony will meet at the UDC field in Montego Bay and Bamboo and Tomorrow’s People will face off at Bamboo.

Former champions Reno FC and Wadadah FC scored 1-0 wins on Tuesday, as the competition kicked off with a double header at Jarrett Park.

Romario Downswell’s 86th minute goal carried Reno to a victory over Granville in their Zone 2 game, while Curtis Palmer’s 28th minute goal was enough for Wadadah to beat 10-man Village United 1-0 in their Zone 1 game.

Village, who along with Reno were demoted from the Red Stripe Premier League at the end of the last season, finished the game with 10 players after Nicholas Falconer was sent off for using foul and abusive language.

The 12 teams have been separated into two zones and will play teams in their own zone twice before facing teams in the other zone once before the top four teams advance to the semi-finals.

There will also be a mid-season final, while the winner at the end of the season will get the chance to play off for one of the two places in next season’s Premier League.
