Lambert blasts 74 in Caribbean T20 warm-up
BALLARD’S VALLEY, St Elizabeth — Captain Tamar Lambert smashed 74 and Andre Russell blasted a pyrotechnic unbeaten 45 to help Jamaica to a 58-run victory over the JPL All Stars XI in yesterday’s Twenty20 (T20) practice match here at the scenic Manley Horne Park.
Batting first, the Jamaica team, preparing for the Caribbean T20 tournament next January, piled up 188-4 in their allotted 20 overs and restricted the JPL outfit to 130-3.
Scores: Jamaica XI 188-4 (20 overs); JPL XI 130-3 (20 overs).
Lambert attractively drove, swept and late-cut to account for 11 fours and two sixes in the attacking knock off 46 balls.
The skipper was eventually dismissed when he edged spinner Jermaine Blackwood and was caught at short third-man by Oshane Walters.
Russell was even more destructive in his 16-ball innings after entering the fray in the 17th over. In his first over at the crease, the West Indies all-rounder drove seamer Fabian Forbes for two boundaries and a straight six in one over. The onslaught continued to the end of the innings as he hammered a total of four sixes and as many fours.
Earlier in Jamaica’s innings, Bonner was bowled by Richardson in the first over, while John Campbell (21) played well before driving lazily to mid-off and was caught.
Out-of-form Danza Hyatt laboured to 31 off 40 balls before skying a catch to Andrew Richardson at mid-wicket off Peat Salmon’s off-spin bowling.
The cagey Richardson took 1-21 off three overs, while Salmon and Forbes ended with spells of 1-25, respectively.
In reply, the All Stars team was hardly ever in the hunt, despite a battling 58-ball 61 from left-hander Damian Bryce.
He was supported by Oraine Williams with 34 not out from 29 balls.
Left-arm pacer Sheldon Cotterell was the top bowler for Jamaica with 2-16 off four overs, while Lambert took the other wicket to fall.
Jamaica return to training at Sabina Park tomorrow, starting at 1:00 pm.
