MONTEGO BAY, St James — Holland High completed the semi-final line-up in the ISSA/KFC Western Conference Under-19 schools basketball competition on Friday after beating Herbert Morrison Technical, 39-33, in Montego Bay and ending the slim hopes of the home team.

Holland, trailing by eight points entering the final quarter, staged a big comeback, outscoring the home team, 19-5, in the final session for a good win.

Three Trelawny schools, led by leaders Muschett High, who completed a perfect preliminary round by hammering Rhodes Hall, 112-40, for their ninth win; William Knibb, 17 points, and Holland, along with defending champions Cornwall College, will contest the semi-final next year.

With Muschett and William Knibb securing the top two seeds, Holland and Cornwall will meet early in 2013 to decide third and fourth places, which will determine the semi-final match-ups.

Meanwhile, Muschett also completed a perfect preliminary round in the Under-16 with a 94-23 win over Spot Valley on Friday, while defending champions Herbert Morrison secured the second seed with a 41-31 win over Holland.

With two semi-finals spots in the Under-16 already decided, three schools — Spot Valley, Green Pond and St James — are battling for the other two spots.

At Herbert Morrison on Friday, with their backs to the wall, the home team got off to a positive start, leading 15-9 after the first quarter, 23-13 at half-time and 28-20 at the end of the third quarter before Holland started their rally.

Hugh Smith scored a game-high 15 points, while Kenrick Lindo added 14, along with 16 rebounds in Holland’s winning bid. Daniel Henry led Herbert Morrison with eight points and six steals.

In the Under-16 game, Herbert recovered from a slow start when they scored just one point in the first quarter to secure a 10-point win, outscoring Holland, 31-8, between the second and third quarters.

Habib Adeloya scored 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals for Herbert Morrison, while Ralique Grant scored 12 points. Omar Wedderburn scored six points for Holland.

At Muschett, the home team went on a scoring feast in both games to close out their first round on a high. Devron Stewart scored 29 points for the Under-16 team that led 24-6, 44-14 and 66-22 at the intervals.

Obrien Clarke scored 26 points and had nine rebounds, while Lamon Thompson scored 12 points for the winners. Jerome Foster managed 12 points for Rhodes Hal.

Five players notched double digits for the Muschett Under-19 team that led 25-2, 57-8 and 93-19 at the intervals. Trevor Mowatt led with 26 points and nine rebounds; Shaquille Rose scored 24 points and had nine rebounds and nine assists; Daniel Scott scored 22 points; Michael Schloss scored 16 and had nine rebounds, while Renardo Fagan chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds.

Delano Drummond’s 16 points led Rhodes Hall, while Dale Bernard scored 13 points and had five assists.
