JAMAICA Karting Association (JKA) closed the 2012 season with its prize-giving event at The Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston, St Andrew, last Tuesday.

The evening’s highlight was the passing of the Abe Zaidie Memorial Trophy from Peter Moodie Jr to Joshua Sirgany in recognition of the latter’s amazing season that confirmed him as the best of the best.

Moodie Jr and Thomas Issa were the runners-up in that title chase.

In the Comer 50, the young karters were making their own designs on lifting the Abe Zaidie Trophy at some point in their careers. Mark Moodie, grandson of racing icon Peter Moodie Sr, took the entry-level title.

There is nothing entry-level about the Rotax classes, where real racing begins and stars are born using 125cc speed machines. Joshua Sirgany stormed to his overall championship by dominating the Rotax Minimax class, followed by Justin Sirgany and Marc Anthony Eaton. The overall Rotax Junior title went to Thomas Issa. Williams Myers and Jonathan Law took second and third-place trophies, respectively.

Matthew Williams graciously accepted the Rotax Senior title, with strong rivals Colin Daley Jr and Najee Scott in tow. Rotax Masters belonged to Peter Moodie Jr, despite the best efforts of Mark Minott and Garth Genus.

The JKA also used the opportunity not only to celebrate those considered to be the future of Jamaica’s motorsports, but the many behind the scenes who contributed to their success.
