MONTEGO BAY, St James — Unheralded Tomorrow’s People flipped the script in Sunday’s mid-season finals of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League, beating Wadadah FC 3-2 at Jarrett Park.

Both coaches — Tomorrow’s People’s Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis and Wadadah FC’s Daniel Ricketts — had named under-strength teams for the consolation final but it was the Bickersteth-based club that grabbed the lead, scoring twice early in the second half after a low-keyed first half.

Davell Cornwall shot them into the lead after 48 minutes, while substitute Gregory Tape made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 56th minute.

Ajohn Baker pulled Wadadah back into the game with the first of his two goals in the 73rd minute, minutes after he replaced Curtis Palmer.

Omar Christie, however, restored Tomorrow’s People’s two-goal margin in the 84th minute before Baker narrowed the margin in time added on.

On the back of seven games without a loss, Wadadah came into the game with the favourites tag against an inconsistent Tomorrow’s People, and despite resting a number of their top players, had the better start.

Palmer hit the cross bar from some 35 yards out with a sweet half-volley in the fifth minute, but that was their only chance in the first 45 minutes.

Tomorrow’s People came close in the 25th minute when a bad mix-up in the Wadadah defence left goalkeeper Alfred Duncan on the ground and the goal wide open, but Cornwall skied the chance.

Cornwall did a lot better three minutes into the second half when he turned nicely just on the edge of the Wadadah area and curled a shot inside the right post to give his team the lead.

He had another chance a minute later, but his side-footed attempt was blocked on the goal line.

Speedy Jermaine Cooper was tripped just inside the penalty area in the 56th minute and the veteran Tape beat reserve goalkeeper Tristan Bernard, who had replaced the injured Duncan minutes earlier.

Ricketts then brought on Baker and Anthony Walker and the moved paid dividends as Wadadah managed to gain the upper hand then pulled a goal back when Baker headed home in the 73rd minute.

Wadadah had two goods chances to draw level but Walker’s shot was just wide of the top right hand corner in the 75th minute then Demar Dohman who just beat the offside trap was blocked by goalkeeper Tito Dobson who came off his line in a flash.

Christie effectively killed off the game as a contest in the 84th minute when he capitalised on a ball that Wadadah failed to clear and slotted it home from close range.

Baker scored a second deep into time added on with what was effectively the final kick of the game.
