Man accused of stealing racing bicycle freed
A man who admitted receiving a specialised racing bicycle that was stolen from a Jamaican national representative was freed when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Rondane Francis, a 26- year-old hotel worker, was charged with receiving stolen property, knowing it to be stolen — a black and blue racing bicycle — from Oshane Williams last August.
A letter from the Jamaica Cycling Federation that was read out in court said they would take no further action if the machine was returned and Resident Magistrate Sandria Wong-Small showed leniency to the accused man, “I will give you a chance this time, but be careful,” she warned Francis “Don’t let me see you in these courts or any other court after this.”
The letter said that Williams had missed significant training time and they the federation had provided him with a replacement bike in the interim.
