SINGER Wayne Wonder has the distinction of being the artiste who introduced Buju Banton to the public in the early 1990s.

On Tuesday night, Wonder paid homage to the incarcerated deejay when he performed at the Behind the Screen series at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records venue in St Andrew.

The moment the band struck up the opening chords to I Don’t Know Why, the popular collaboration between both artistes, the audience went into a frenzy. With Wonder doubling on the singing and deejay parts, the patrons became even more excited.

The singer was forced to ‘pull up’ the tracks due to the enthusiastic response.

That appreciation was maintained throughout Wonder’s hour-long performance to a moderate turnout.

He would take the audience, which was predominantly female, through songs which have made him popular over the years.

I Do Believe, Love and Affection, Searching, Joyride, Saddest Day, Child’s Play and Slowly But Surely were all well delivered by the seemingly ageless artiste.

Dressed in white with a grey leather jacket, he rounded out his performance with his even more popular tracks, Bounce Along and the international hit, No Letting Go, on the Diwali ‘riddim’.

During No Letting Go, a female patron took the stage and danced with the artiste.

For An encore, Wonder performed Forever Young—  another popular track from back in the day. With the audience singing the hook, Wonder thanked them but before exiting, giving a taste of a new song, Never Gonna Say Goodbye.
