Herbert Morrison talking tourism
MEMBERS of Herbert Morrison’s Tourism Action Club were last week summoned to Sandals Royal Caribbean (SRC) for a luxury-included tour of the resort’s facilities.
The tour, which signified the continuation of a two-year partnership between Sandals resorts in the Montego Bay region and the Herbert Morrison High School Tourism Action Club, introduced all major departments within the hotel structure as well as highlighted some of the unique offerings of Sandals resorts international.
Among the areas visited during the tour were front office, concierge, housekeeping, the weddings lounge, watersports, and engineering. The students also spoke with representatives from butler services, the landscaping department and food and beverage and got a sneak peak of newly expanded Red Lane® spa facilities on Sandals Private Island.
According to Herbert Morrison’s Oshane Harriot, staff facilitator for the club, the resort tour proved very informative and entertaining with the various department presenters incorporating ways in which the students — who are mostly at the fifth and sixth form level — could themselves become involved in tourism.
At the end of the tour many of the students, who previously had very little knowledge of hotel operations, seemed upbeat and keen on further exploring job opportunities within the industry.
