MEMBERS of the Jamaica Classic Car Club (JCCC) took their beautifully restored retro rides on the road for the organisation’s monthly meeting held at the Ultimate Jerk Centre in Discovery Bay on Sunday.

Collectors and classic car enthusiasts alike gathered around to admire a range of vintage vehicles parked side by side at the venue.

The club — whose mandate is to preserve, protect and promote Jamaica’s love affair with classic cars — welcomed five new members to its ranks at the meeting. According to the club’s president Nigel McFarlane, members are encouraged to drive their ‘classics’ to meetings like these as part of the thrust to keep the organisation’s members informed, build camaraderie and showcase their ‘antiques’.

Among the vehicles in impeccable condition were an electric red Porsche Carrera RS 3.8, an equally impressive Triumph TR6, a beautiful Nash Metropolitan, a dazzling antique Mercedes-Benz, two well-preserved BMWs and a Volkswagen Beetle.

“The day was as good as it could get. Nearly 40 members showed up and we also got a lot of interest from new members. It’s really great to see that the excitement is still there,” McFarlane told Auto.

The president said the club tries to have a monthly meeting in different places so that members from across the island can have the chance to come out and show their passion for their collectibles.

The next meeting of the JCCC will be on Sunday, April 14, at The Vineyard in Mandeville.

McFarlane said an even larger display of vehicles is expected.

“We always have a much larger turnout of classics in Mandeville because it’s easier for both our members from Kingston and Mandeville to drive them to the venue. We’ve already started making calls to let them know the date is set, so we’re expecting close to 30 cars for the next meeting,” he said.
