Bishop Gibson, DeCarteret take schools KO titles
TWO Mandeville teams, Bishop Gibson High girls and DeCarteret College boys captured the schools knockout trophies, which were played for last Friday at the Constant Spring Golf Club and sponsored by the Sports Development Foundation.
In the girls’ final, Bishop Gibson blanked Immaculate 3-0 to take their second title for the 2012-13 school year, while for the boys, DeCarteret College triumphed over Calabar, the team that recently defeated them in the All-Island Schools final that followed the Eastern and Western League competitions, by a 3-1 scoreline. Both winners are coached by national junior coach Howard Ranger.
Third place in the girls went to St Jago, who received a walkover, as St Hugh’s were absent. For the boys it was Haile Selassie defeating St George’s College by 3-2 to take the bronze.
The third and final event on the 2012-13 schools’ calendar is the junior league, which was scheduled to start yesterday with a match between Tavares Primary and Haile Selassie High — boys.
Scores in the finals: Bishop Gibson defeated Immaculate 3-0.
Ravon Wong defeated Carithea Richards 21-3, 21-4; Alana Bailey defeated Christina Petri 19-21, 21-16, 21-13; and Ravon Wong and Taylor-Ann Chin-Quee defeated Elisa Cheung and Juleen Gentles 21-18, 18-21, 21-11.
DeCarteret College defeated Calabar 3-1.
Sean Wilson defeated Deran Gregg 21-13, 21-12; Shane Wilson lost to Jamari Rose 18-21, 18-21; Erin Bailey defeated Vinroy Braham 21-16, 16-21, 21-13; and Sean Wilson and Shane Wilson defeated Jamari Rose and Kimani Ferrigan 21-7, 21-14.
Semi-final Results: Bishop Gibson defeated St Hugh’s by a walkover, and
Immaculate defeated St Jago 3-2 in girls’ action. In the boys’ competition, Calabar defeated St George’s 3-1, and DeCarteret defeated Haile Selassie 3-0.
