Portlanders lending a hand on Labour Day
PORTLAND, Jamaica – Just under one hundred projects are registered with the Portland Parish Council for today’s Labour Day under the theme “Lend a Hand.. Build our Land” as true community spirit is displayed across the eastern parish.
The parish project which involves the construction of rails and repairs to steps leading to the Port Antonio Hospital is underway while other projects include the construction of a classroom at the Hart Hill Basic School by One Jamaica Foundation headed by Ann Marie Vaz.
Principal of the school, Carmen Christie, this morning told the Observer that she was “extremely grateful for the assistance given.”
At Buff Bay the Community Development Committee (CDC) is painting the wall at the Methodist Church in the town square while members of the Olivere Citizens Association are doing beautification at the original Lynch Park.
Meanwhile in Charles Town, which has a rich Maroon Heritage, citizens are cleaning the Maroon Cemetery in the community.
