I am a proud Jamaican, but…
Dear Editor,
I am a Jamaican youth living in the United States of America and I am very much disturbed by what is going on in Jamaica’s society today.
Firstly, I can’t seem to understand what is going on with our politicians. I strongly believe that if both parties merge, then Jamaica would be a better society.
Believe it or not, Jamaica has great assets; but we keep selling them, causing us to depend on other countries. We don’t need to keep borrowing from the IMF, we have valuable assets that we can earn from if we put them to use.
Jamaicans are a very educated and talented people who know “how fi tek wi hand tun fashion”. Politicians need to quit being selfish and stop thinking about themselves.
Secondly, what is the minister of education putting in place to guarantee the safety of our children? Imagine, a 13-year-old stabbed by a 14-year-old? Where were the adults?
We have to secure the lives of our children; they are the country’s future; invest in our children.
Thirdly, the crime rate in Jamaica is rising so high it’s unbelievable, violent crime in Jamaica is a serious problem. Where is the security minister in all of this? With all due respect, is he scared of these criminals, or do they have shares in whatever criminality these criminals are pursuing? We need to find a way to reduce the crime rate. It breaks my heart to hear people scared of visiting our country due to past experiences or what they were told. Honestly, you can’t blame them; they are scared for their lives and this affects our tourism product.
I am a proud Jamaican, and will forever hold my country in high regard, but some intervention is needed now.
