Police critical in hospital following robbery
MANDEVILLE, Jamaica — The St Elizabeth police say that Constable Dean Palmer, a police officer assigned to the Black River Police Station remains in critical condition in the Mandeville Regional Hospital as a result of injuries he received in a robbery Wednesday night.
Reports are that Palmer who was on suspension for “internal breaches” within the Jamaica Constabulary Force was engaged in security duties at a gas station at Junction in the parish.
He reportedly accompanied a co-worker to do the day’s lodgement at a nearby financial institution sometime after 10:00pm.
Palmer and his co-worker were allegedly pounced upon by two men armed with guns, and he was shot several times.
His firearm and an undetermined sum of cash was stolen, police say. The other employee was reportedly treated for injuries.
A police source says leads are being followed in locating the people responsible for the crime.
