Lack of sponsorship stalls dexterity meet
SUNDAY’S upcoming fourth round of the Drivers’ Rallysport Club (DRC) AutoDexterity Championship scheduled for the Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston has been put on hold to a later date to be announced.
“We’ve been having difficulties in securing corporate support for this event,” said Wayne Piper DRC president.
Piper also sights that the threat of bad weather over the weekend could potentially keep the event in the red further adding to the decision to postpone. Dexterity have been on shaky ground as a form of racing leading to starting late in the motorsports season.
Formed in May of this year the DRC took up the mantle and was able to successfully kickstart the championship with a double header on July 13.
“We had competitors around the island anxiously awaiting this round. We are deeply disappointed for any inconvenience caused and once a new date has been worked out with the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club we will advise all involved,” added Piper.
The DRC will now focus their efforts on the reviving another ailing motorsports genre, sprints. With the last rounds of the National Sprint Championship in April, the DRC had managed to secure a title sponsor, Tru Juice, for the September 22 event in Bog Walk, St Catherine.
“The Tru Juice DRC RallySprint will be an big event. A nice circuit has been designed. The event may also be the finale to the JMMC National Sprint Championship with two sprints run in either direction, clock and counter clockwise,” said Piper.
The event will not only host rally cars, but dirt bikes and quad runners as well with music and food on hand.
