MONTEGO BAY, St James Reggae Youths and Spot Valley High will meet this afternoon at Jarrett Park, starting at 5:00 pm in what is expected to be an exciting game in the finals of the St James Football Association/Sandals/ATL Under-20 competition.

The teams set up the meeting after scoring similar 3-0 margins in Monday afternoon’s semi-finals at the UDC Field in Montego Bay. Reggae Youths turned back Irwin, while Spot Valley High under the guidance of Steve Bucknor scored all three goals in the first half against Club Stars. Spot Valley will have a slight advantage having beaten Reggae Youths 1-0 in their only meeting this season.

Three games will be played today as the third year of the Sandals-sponsored summer competition comes to a close- Montego Bay Boys Club and Club Stars will meet in the Under 13 finals set for 1:00 pm, while the unbeaten Cornwall College All-Stars and Club Stars will meet for the Under 17 title, set to start at 3:00 pm.

In the Under-17 finals, Cornwall College, with most of last year’s all conquering Under 16 team that won four titles, will start overwhelming favourites after winning all their preliminary round games without conceding a goal.

The Leacroft Lettman-coached Cornwall College team had beaten Club Stars 1-0 and 2-0 in their earlier meetings. Although the title will be the primary objective, the teams in the Under 20 game could have different targets as while the Spot Valley team are preparing for the start of the schoolboys’ football season that gets underway on Saturday, Reggae Youths’ summer season will come to an end and will look forward to the start of the club season in another few months time.

On Monday Reggae Youths scored two late goals to chase a disorganised and undisciplined Irwin team in the first semi-final.

After a goalless first half, Leslie Foster gave the Oscar Irving team the lead in the 48 the minute from the penalty spot with the first of his two goals.

Julian Daley then doubled the lead in the 78th minute before Foster’s 81st minute goal put the game out of reach of Irwin FC.

After a spirited start by Club Stars, the club that hails from the same area as Spot Valley High, the schoolboys took charge and were given the lead in the 14th minute when National Under-17 representative Tyshan Hill scored from just outside the 18-yard area on the right flank, beating the goalkeeper to the far corner as the custodian made no move to cut off the ball.

Oshane Forbes scored another beauty for Spot Valley nine minutes later, when he pounced on a ball just on the edge of the area and hit it on the volley, beating the goalkeeper with sheer pace.

A mistake by the goalkeeper in the 40th minute gifted Spot Valley a third goal which was enough to ensure their safe passage to the final.
