SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Every afternoon the residents of Siloah Housing Scheme look anxiously skywards at gathering dark clouds.

Then they look at the ‘breakaway’ which — pelted by heavy afternoon rains — is being steadily eroded, inch by inch.

For years, councillor for the Siloah Division, Audie Myers (PNP), has been lobbying to have the damaged road fixed. But so far to no avail.

Now, he says, the situation is dire and the authorities need to act.

“As you can see, soon and very soon, the road will be split in two and the community will be split in two if something isn’t done — and there are no other access roads,” said Myers.

The councillor says that in 2011, the then Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government requested an estimate for the cost of repairing the road. That was done with the figure at the time being just under $4 million.

“I am once again requesting a speedy intervention (by the authorities),” Myers told Observer Central last Thursday.
