CIRCUIT racing season’s finale, Heroes of Speed at Dover Raceway in St Ann today, is poised to be a fierce battle among Jamaica’s top drivers.

Qualification is scheduled for an 8:15 am start.

The meet’s roster includes David Summerbell Jr, driving his Mitsubishi Evolution VIII; Doug Gore, in the cockpit of his Audi TT-R DTM; Peter ‘Zoom Zoom’ Rae, at the controls of his Mazda RX7; Alan Chen in his Toyota Starlet; and Andre Anderson, navigating his Mitsubishi Colt.

Anderson is in the lead for the Driver’s Championship title, which was won last year by Sebastien Rae.

“As long as the car holds together, we should win,” a confident Anderson told the Jamaica Observer.

Anderson, who is part of Total Summerbell Racing (TSR) team also leads in the Bracket 27 (B27) and Modified Production 3 (MP3) classes.

“We’ve pulled the car apart and rebuilt it to make it more reliable,” he said.

Summerbell Jr said a decision would be made regarding his racer after today’s meet.

“We are going to try a few different things to decide if we’re going to keep the car. So, we could go very quickly if our changes work out,” he said.

Gore returns from a one-meet break in protest of the current tyre regulation. Teams in the Modified Production group are restricted to a total of four tyres and two spares for the entire meet.

He said he was promised by the JRDC executive that the tyre rules will change.

Female motorcycle rider Michelle Laidlaw, who was slated to return to the track after a two-year break, will not be in action.

Her motorcycle suffered mechanical damage during Friday’s practice and will not be ready in time for today’s meet.
