Anderson is 2013 champion
The Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) Heroes of Speed meet on Monday at Dover Raceway, saw the circuit racing season end with Andre Anderson taking his first ever overall driver’s title.
Anderson was pretty much guaranteed the JRDC driver’s championship when his closest points rival Kyle Gregg suffered engine failure before the event.
He once again overcame a similar problem, having to rebuild his engine to make Monday’s race day. Despite the title in the bag, Anderson gave it his all and sealed a triplet of titles with a series of flawless drives.
“Car was great,” said a confident Anderson. He would go on, along with the driver’s title, to take the Bracket 27 and his Modified Production class titles as well.
Anderson’s victories were punctuated with the literal bang the season ended on, as the eagerly awaited head-to-head between David Summerbell Jr and Douglas Gore in the day’s final Thundersport race was stopped early when Gore spun out after hitting the wall opposite the infamous Pinky’s Bluff corner.
Mechanical issues kept Summerbell’s Lancer Evolution VIII away from direct competition with the Audi TT-R DTM, but he would get it together for the final race of the day. Starting mid pack, he raced to the front and took the lead after executing a pass on the Audi. Seconds later, Gore made contact with the cliff wall to the left of the corner entrance to the off camber downhill popularly called Pinky’s Bluff. This damaged the left rear rim, removing the tyre and sending it spinning to a halt further down the circuit.
“It was scary,” said Gore after the event.
